Movement Breaks or Brain Boosters are short movement bursts that you can do throughout the day, especially before school and in between classes. They can help energize you in the morning before a meeting or relax and calm you before a test. The goal is to get some moderate to vigorous activity that gets the blood pumping.
Movement breaks have great health benefits, including increased concentration and memory; reduced restlessness or hyperactivity; better sleep; and increased energy levels. More importantly, short activity breaks can help kids incorporate exercise into their day as a life-long habit. For busy families, it's also a great way for kids and adults to motivate each other to stay active. According to Len Saunders, “[p]arents who exercise with their children are not only teaching them how to live a healthy lifestyle, they are also reinforcing the family bonds and creating wonderful family traditions.”
We've put together these 10-minute Movement Breaks for you and the kids. Have fun with this challenge and encourage each other to do a little more each day. We know how far a little motivation can get you!
