Movement Breaks are short movement bursts that you can do throughout the day, especially during down time or commercial breaks. They can also help energize you in the morning before a meeting or relax and calm you before a test. The goal is to get some moderate to vigorous activity that gets the blood pumping.
Movement breaks have great health benefits, including increased concentration and memory; reduced restlessness or hyperactivity; better sleep; and increased energy levels. More importantly, short activity breaks can help kids incorporate exercise into their day as a life-long habit. For busy families, it's also a great way for kids and adults to motivate each other to stay active. According to Len Saunders, “[p]arents who exercise with their children are not only teaching them how to live a healthy lifestyle, they are also reinforcing the family bonds and creating wonderful family traditions.”
We've put together these 10-minute Movement Breaks for you and the kids. Have fun with this challenge and encourage each other to do a little more each day. We know how far a little motivation can get you!
